Marty Meehan is the President of the University of Massachusetts ("UMass"), a position he assumed on July 1, 2015.
Prior to serving as President of UMass, Mr. Meehan was Chancellor of UMass Lowell, and prior to that position he represented the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2007, where he was a member of the House Armed Services and Judiciary committees. He was the First Assistant District Attorney of Middlesex County and the Massachusetts Deputy Secretary of State for Securities and Corporations. Also, in the early 1980’s, Mr. Meehan was an adjunct faculty member in political science at UMass Lowell.
Mr. Meehan is on the board of directors at Lowell General Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Previously, he served on the board of directors of Qteros (formerly SunEthanol), Sage Bank (formerly Lowell Cooperative Bank), and D’Youville Foundation and was a member of the board of trustees of Suffolk University. He is the author of many publications and the recipient of numerous awards.
Mr. Meehan holds a Bachelor of Science, cum laude in secondary education and political science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University, and a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School. He holds honorary degrees from Suffolk University, Green Mountain College in Vermont, and Shenkar College of Engineering & Design in Israel.
